Budget 2020 and IR35

Budget 2020 and IR35

Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced the 2020 Budget today with a whole host of measures to help businesses, especially small ones, over the coming year in light of the potential Covid19 crisis.

One measure that was absent from the speech was abolishing the forthcoming IR35 changes. It was always somewhat far-fetched that the government would back track on implementing these changes (given how much additional revenue they will make from it) but that doesn’t stop people living in hope.

The detailed notes of the budget do address IR35 and make it clear that following the consultation, a number of measures have been introduced and these will ensure the legislation is introduced as smoothly as possible.

So there you have it, the changes to IR35 are 100% happening and companies should start preparing very quickly for this if they haven’t already.
